Speculation Notes; Kris Russell Value, Anaheim Ducks Core, Detroit Red Wings Playoff Hopes, Carey Price vs Corey Schneider
Here's some hot topics to speculate about;
-As the regular season nears, defenseman Kris Russell is still lagging on the free agent market. Will he still recieve a contract to his desire? Will he even recieve a contract worth more than a small one-year deal? It's almost a given at this point that Russell's value has been diminished greatly and at this point, I'm pretty sure he's going to get nothing more than a one-year deal from a team.
-The Anaheim Ducks still have a solid core in hand, but how much longer do they have in their window of contention? They have players like Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, and Ryan Kesler locked up for the long-term plus some youngsters still in the fold, but will their window close anytime soon?
-The Detroit Red Wings have barely made the playoffs the last 3 seasons and aren't projected to make the playoffs this year. With some older players getting closer to retirement, is it time to take a step back and let younger players from the system have a chance to make an impact? I think it's time for Red Wing fans to come to terms that the streak may end this year, and that it's time for a small rebuild.
-Time for the fans to decide, I'll post an article on this later, but which of the two top goaltenders, Carey Price of the Canadiens or Cory Schneider of the Devils, have the best chance to leading their team to the playoffs?
