Trump Trumped America

I really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY didn't want to write a blog about the election. But it's kind of hard not to when the story is so big and Facebook is so unbearable. Tom Brady is also kinda sorta involved, so here I am. By the way, Tom says you can ask his wife about his opinion on the election if you'd like.

Trump trumped us all. The people kept telling him he couldn't win and he kept winning. Whether you voted for him or not, whether you hate him or love him, the man deserves some credit. Or maybe America deserves very little credit. Either way, he gets some kudos from me. Well played, Donald.

Do I like Trump? Not quite. I didn't go to Tulane to just waste the education my mom sacrificed many things for. I nearly loathe Clinton just the same. But this isn't the end of the world, people. Everything will be ok.

To the supporters who think he's going to blow up Washington and build a wall - he isn't. And to the haters who thinks he's going to nuke the planet at any given Twitter insult - he's not.

The system is structured to not let anything ridiculous happen. Obama came in with grand plans and the only one that really prevailed was Obamacare. Albeit a big one, the Affordable Care Act didn't even flush out the way he hoped because it had to be compromised to a large extent (it not being single payer's for example). Obama's proposals got voted down time and time and time again by the Republicans to prevent him from accomplishing, well, borderline anything. Trump will have an even bigger wall (get it?) to climb since the Democrats don't like him and neither does a large number of his own party.

Let's not forget we're all Team USA. We may all play various positions and have different game plans, but we all play on the same damn team. And by the way, regardless of what a hilarious hat may say, that team is pretty damn great. Because I can voice my opinion on a stupid blog and so can you. You can even voice it on a bathroom wall in all caps with a Sharpie if you'd prefer. You can wear whatever hat or shirt you'd like. You can sit, stand, or lock elbows with the stranger next to you for the National Anthem and I have the given right to bitch or not bitch about it on Facebook. We can do any or all of those things because we live in a country that is already pretty awesome.

I'm not as close as I wish to be with my grandfather, but one thing he told me growing up that always stuck is that politics should never come between friends and family. Never. It's simply not worth it. Reading all of the gloating and crying on Facebook after nearly every election saddens me. There are much more important things in each and every one of our lives that matter way more than our next POTUS. Whether it's health, work, swiping left or right, or enjoying a drink with your friend(s), all of those things are much more important than the next man or woman to represent this country.

The Trump Train is rolling on in, folks. It's now your choice to hop aboard and make the best of this ride or drunkenly wallow in the gutter for the next 4 (hopefully just 4) years. The privilege is ours.

Let's go, USA.

P.S.

Trump is apparently giving Goldman Sachs alum Steven Mnuchin heavy consideration for Treasury secretary. Former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is also receiving heavy consideration from Trump for a role in his Cabinet. If those choices don't scream 'Anti-Establishment', then I don't know what does.
