White Sox, LA Dodgers Trade Rumors: Chris Sale, David Robertson, Yasiel Puig
More and more it’s looking like the Los Angeles Dodgers will strike a major deal. Their deep farm system allows them to do this as they have several desirable pieces from the lowest levels of the minor league system all the way up to the big leagues. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports has offered some thoughts and information on which players could potentially be involved in a blockbuster trade between the Dodgers and Chicago White Sox.
From the White Sox, the three candidates Passan has listed are Chris Sale, David Robertson, and Todd Frazier. All three fill a need the Dodgers would like to address. Sale adds the presence of an ace behind Clayton Kershaw. The much talked about lefty is probably the best player on the trade block right now and one you’ll hear about extensively until the White Sox finally do deal him. Robertson and Frazier, meanwhile, are options if the Dodgers are unable to re-sign Kenley Jansen and Justin Turner. I figure one of them will return. My personal preference is bringing Turner back. Jansen will cost a lot for a closer. The market for Turner doesn’t look like a strong one either. I think the Dodgers can get him at a discount once he sees how few teams actually have interest.
In return, Passan lists Yasiel Puig and prospects Jose De Leon, Alex Verdugo, Cody Bellinger, and Willie Calhoun as names the White Sox would want back from the Dodgers. The prospects are the top four in the Dodgers’ system at the moment so it’s no mystery as to why the White Sox are after those men.
None of these names are surprises at all. The White Sox are looking to trade all of their MLB talent other than Jose Quintana and Adam Eaton. In any trade the White Sox do make, they are looking to restock the farm, but also possibly add at least one MLB-level talent such as Puig.
Other trade rumors regarding the White Sox, Sale in particular, have suggested the Boston Red Sox could create a similar package full of top prospects and one MLB player. Boston’s outfielder the White Sox may want is Jackie Bradley Jr. I’m not sure he’s much better at all than Puig in the long-term. This means the prospect package is the bigger factor in any trade made.
