One mistake of Golden State

Golden State Warriors have been defeated only once in #NBAPlayoffs-2017, when they’ve gave up enormous 137 points to Cleveland Cavaliers along with allowing them to score a record-breaking number of triples…

The universal view is the #Cavs simply could not miss shots in Game 4. But InStat is traditionally trying to find statistical reasons even for that kind of magical performance.

Let’s compare the Cavs’ stats in that particular match with other games’ numbers inside the series. Tyronn Lue’s team has been way more active in Game 4 in terms of pre-shot preparational work.

Cleveland has not leaned heavily on simple drives (only 34 points off drives in Game 4 while averaging 50 of those throughout the #NBAFinals). They made more combinational plays instead: 36 points from spot ups and 10 more after screen offs.

Overall, there is no magic involved. The Cavaliers have fought on boards relentlessly (55% rebound contests won - given that the Dubs had better average throughout the Finals in that particular parameter).

Cleveland was better in passing. They’ve moved the ball better and prepared shots more scrupulously (mainly through an outstanding utilization of screens). All that resulted in 10 made uncontested 3-pointers against the #Warriors (the series’ average stands at 4.5).
