DFS NASCAR Recap - Daytona 500

Kurt Busch has won a Championship at the highest level and has also won 28 races in his career but one thing he has never done was win the Daytona 500. That ended this afternoon as he made a last lap pass on Kyle Larson and didn't look back as he took the checkered flag in NASCAR's biggest race. The victory wasn't the only first as it was also crew chief Tony Gibson's first win at the historic race. On top of that, it was a double dip for Monster Energy who not only took over as the series sponsor but also sponsors Kurt Busch's #41 Stewart-Hass car.

Pole sitter Chase Elliott battled hard all race and was in the lead late until he ran out of fuel with just three laps to go. Kyle Larson who took over that lead also ran out of fuel after being passed by eventual winner Busch. They weren't the only drivers disappointed at the end of the race as "the big one" happened multiple times, especially int he final stage of the race. Some fo the drivers forced to exit to the garage early were Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, Erik Jones, Jamie McMurray, Brad Keselowski, Jimmie Johnson, Clint Bowyer, and Kevin Harvick to name a few. The final 10 laps of the race saw just 11 drivers in the main pack.

From a DFS perspective, if you avoided the chaos and somehow made it to the end with all six drivers crossing the finish line you more than likely seen some green screens. My main strategy of targeting drivers starting closer to the back worked out as the Top 5 in final DraftKings points all started outside of the 30th starting position. As expected, Martin Truex Jr. topped the ownership ranks this week after failing post-qualifying inspection and starting back in 35th. There is always merit in expanding the target list of drivers for this race with its unpredictability and chance to snag some low ownership guys who can grab some nice finishes. This week the biggest winner was Michael Waltrip in his final Daytona 500 finishing 8th and picking up 65 DK points while sitting at 7.8% average GPP ownership. Other notable top values this week were Brandan Gaughan(63.5 DK points/9.3 % Owned), Matt DiBenedetto(53.5 DK points/1.9% Owned), and Aric Almirola(53 Dk Points./6.8% Owned).

I also started playing satellites for the PGA Milli Maker and found one I really liked for the Daytona 500. It was $1 and had an 11 entry max, paying out the top 10. I was close to cashing in big before the final wreck but still managed to grab two tickets worth $33 each, a net profit of $55. I also plan on turning that into a cool Million bucks come April. LOL. When making these lineups I have been using the FantasyFanatics Cheatsheet/Lineup Optimizer. It allows you to select your exposure to each driver after selecting how many lineups you are making. After that is set you can hit optimize and BAM, you have your lineups. Don't like the way they look? Adjust the exposures to reduce or increase that of any driver and re-optimize. It's very very user-friendly. If you are multi-entering tournaments in any sport, it is easily worth every penny! To sign up click the link below.
