DFS PGA Ownership Breakdown - Waste Management Phoenix Open

Round 1 is underway and it has been a fantastic morning/early afternoon thanks to PGA Tour Live. Not only did we get a featured group of Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, and last week's winner Jon Rahm but we also got an elite secondary group of Hideki Matsuyama, Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger. And now that featured group coverage is over we get non-stop coverage of the Loudest Hole in Golf. Some days just love my job more than others. Today is one of those days!

While I sit and watch golf with my daughter on Thursday I decided to give you the DFS PGA ownership breakdown early. I included it last week in the Mid Tournament Breakdown(which will continue) but will try to get it to you on Thursday's moving forward. You can find the link to the full Trends Sheet at the bottom of this post.

As you can see in the snip below, the odd pricing this week left us with the exact same Top 10 in ownership for cash games and GPP's. Brendan Steele takes the top spot this week at 33% in GPP's and 53.4% in cash games(average of contests listed on sheet). Early in round one, he is delivering for the masses sitting at two under par through four holes. Having written up Spieth, Rahm, and Koepka in the upper tier I was happy to Rahm under 30% as I was sure with the win last week + ASU connection would have him 35%+. He was up and down on Thursday with three birdies and two bogeys and hit just over 6% of his fairways and greens. Spieth with his $12K price tag almost slipped out of the Top 10 in ownership(21.8% in GPP) which was a bit surprising but I will take it as I have 36% exposure in GPP's. His Off the Tee game was a bit shaky in round one as he only hit six of 14 fairways but ended up hitting 12 of 18 greens and put on a putting clinic outside of 20 feet. It started at the 11th hole (his 2nd hole) where he hit his tee ball in the water, dropped, hit the green then sunk a 48-foot putt to save par. He finished with three putts of 20 feet or more. If he ca hit a few more fairways, look out for Jordan going into the weekend. Finally, I was thrilled to see my favorite GPP play of the top tier come in 15th in ownership. There was definitely risk, with his inconsistent form but the upside is enormous. He currently sits two strokes back of leader Hideki Matsuyama(-6) after his opening round. He hit eight of 14 fairways and was lights out with the putter, currently gaining 1.794 strokes on the field.

You will also notice that FanShareSports most tagged list was pretty much bang on again this week. The only players in my Top 10 average not in the Top 10 most tagged are Tony Finau(13 most), Patrick reed(T19 most) and Ryan Moore(T12 most). If you aren't using FanShare Pro you are missing out on a very valuable research tool.
