DFS PGA Recap - WGC Mexico Championship

Dustin Johnson continued to add to his trophy case on Sunday as he won the WGC Mexico Championship. He not only won the tournament but also added some career milestones. He became the fifth player in history to win his first event after being named #1 and created a nice buffer between he and Jason Day as the Majors are creeping up on us. The win in Mexico also gives him four World Golf Championships victories, second to only Tiger Woods who has racked up 14 to this point in his career.

The win didn't come nearly as easy as it did at the Genesis Open as John Rahm, Ross Fisher, and Tommy Fleetwood all made their push on Sunday afternoon but came up short. If you missed any of the action, I got you covered with a PGA Tour recap of the final round. Take a look:

The win by DJ also makes it five straight wins and seven wins in this calendar year's nine tournaments where a Top 10 player in the world has hoisted the trophy. The other two winners were Hudson Swafford(#92) and John Rahm(#25). Golf is in great hands right now.

Top 20 in DraftKings Points and Ownership

With a limited field, no-cut event there was a ton of variance in scoring as DJ won with a final score of -14 while K.T. Kim finished 76th with a  +22 score. The new course to the players was also a variance creator as we seen some higher profile players(Knox, Willett, ZJ, Furyk, Reed) finish outside the Top 50 this week.

The biggest stinker of the week was Henrik Stenson withdrawing in the first round at nearly 30% ownership. I was a large part of that 30% as I went well overweight on him this past week. Here is a look at my picks on DFSR from teh WGC Mexico Championship:

Jordan Spieth - T12 finish, 95.5 DK Points(7th), 25% GPP Ownership(4th)

Henrik Stenson - WD, 6 DK Points(77th), 29.5% GPP Ownership(2nd)

Adam Scott - T45, 59 DK Points(45th), 21.8% GPP Ownership(6th)

Sergio Garcia - T12, 76 DK Points(18th), 26% GPP Ownership(3rd)

Bill Haas - T32, 58.5 DK Points(46th), 16.2% GPP Ownership(15th)

Bernd Wiesberger - T45, 51 DK Points(63rd), 9.8 % GPP Ownership(28th)

Joost Luiten - T25, 62 DK Points(42nd), 1.9% GPP Ownership(53rd)

Danny Willett - 69th, 49.5 DK Points(64th), 7.8% GPP Ownership(32nd)

So glad I decided to start breaking down my picks the week I sucked completely. Why not the past month when I was doing much better? Answers I will never find. Either way, I am just trying to be as transparent as possible. I can tell you one thing. I will be using the Fantasy Fanatics Lineup Generator to create my 50 lineups next week. It saved me hours of manual lineup construction.  They also do an excellent job of ownership analysis that I haven't even considered figuring out. They not only break down cash and GPP ownership but also break down duplicate lineups, variance between tournies, your own exposure as well as your value to how each golfer did post-tournament. Check them out.

Notable Rises in World Golf Rankings(Top 100)

John Rahm - With another impressive result at the WGC Mexico Championship(T3), Rahm has moved up 13 spots this week to #25 in the world. He has also made one of the biggest moves(+112) from the end of the 2016 season where he sat at 137th. This guy is for real.

Tommy Fleetwood - The Englishmen finished with a solo 2nd at the WGC Mexico Championship, one stroke behind Dustin Johnson. This jumped him from #55 to #35 in the World Golf Rankings.

Notable Falls in World Golf Rankings(Top 100)

Ryan Moore - Not really any big moves down this week. Moore drops four spots to #37 after a T28 last week at the WGC Mexico Championship.

Russell Knox - Knox fell out of the Top 20 in the World after very disappointing 12 over par, 70th place finish at the WGC Mexico Championship.
