Blackburn away review

Sheesh, that was tiring. The weather was bad, rained all day and we got soaked. PNE drew, not the best of results but a point closer to 6th but missed a huge chance to get to within just 3 points away from 6th. The stadium itself was a decent, the atmosphere was ok but what do expect for a local derby? PNE lead early on through Barkhuizen finding some space to tightly shoot from near the centre of the area just inside the box. The defender closed, Steele got a big foot to it but it rose into the roof of the net. Steele will be disappointed but PNE lead. Blackburn then dominated, having numerous chances, mainly from range. They had a goal rightly ruled out for offside from some lovely twists and turns from their attacker (sorry, I've no idea of names, someone forgot to get a programme to study...) and Emnes turned it in. It remained 1-0 Preston until the 43rd minute when Bennett fooled the defence by twisting once and going with his right when it looked like he was going with his left, and from range found the bottom right hand corner. 1-1. A deserved equaliser and Preston punished for sitting back.

The second half carried on with Blackburn dominating. Emnes had a great chance flash wide, their long balls and control was superb and Blackburn played with real confidence. They can carry on their good work until the end of the season, they could well stay up. Conway found a load of space behind the none existent high line of North End and slots past Maxwell for 2-1 midway through the half. Ewood was rocking and Preston looked baffled. It carried on like that until the final 10 minutes. Whether Blackburn ran out of energy or just wanted to sit back and look for the counter, I don't know but they battered Preston yesterday. They got punished for sitting back though. North End chucked on the jugular, with Gallagher and Big Mak coming on and boy they caused problems. Mcgeady's awesome freekick was turned in by Huntington late on, but it was offside and it looked offside. So close but a big relief to Blackburn. But with less than a minute to go, Blackburn failed to clear their lines from sitting back so deep, Clarke pushed forward and found a few yards of space near the net (awful defending) and with Gallagher's pass to him being so good, he only needed to square to McGeady who also had space from 6-7 yards in the middle of the goal, he takes a touch and slots away. The away end go crazy, like they have won it but a 2-2 is somewhat fair and a great game. No winner and does neither team a favour. Blackburn remain unbeaten under Mowbray but they should have won. They really should have.

I'll see you soon for the blog of the City - Liverpool review which kicks off real soon. Peace.
