England 3 - 0 Scotland short review.

Just a quick report as I'm short of time as I've been busy, so whilst I've got a few minutes, here are some of my thoughts on the game.

First, Scotland manager Gordon Strachan is in trouble for his job, Scotland are in trouble of not qualifying for the world cup, but with the qualifying only opening in September, it's very disappointing for them. Will he see out his job until the end of the qualifying campaign? I'm not sure. I wouldn't be surprised. Scotland had chances to score, cause problems and punish England's errors. The team, especially up front, were either just not up for the game or just not good enough. In my opinion, I think a bit of both. Scotland will be very disappointed to have lost 3-0 considering they had 3 or 4 excellent chances, not just chances, but excellent chances, to score level and even go ahead. The strikers were a bit greedy, wasteful and poor. England's passing out from the back was like watching my team, Man City and just like City, the defence make mistakes. We get punished for them at every level we play, so that shows how poor Scotland were. I'm sure they are very disappointed as this was a big derby game, away, in front of a big crowd and a chance to showcase that they can upset England. Most of all, they will be disappointed that qualifying for the World Cup is nearly over for them. England, going forward, were ok. Against better teams, they would have lost but you can only beat what you play. So for that, a job well done. They're in the pole position to qualify and look comfortable in the top 2 so a good win and job done. Onto March's Qualifier against Lithuania. A couple of friendlies between then, against Spain (Tuesday at Wembley) and Germany (March 2017 in Germany). Yay friendlies. Ugh.

In terms of Friday's match, Walkers run and cross was good for the first goal. A good glanced header into the corner of the keepers left from Sturridge opened up proceedings. The second was similar to the first. Rose with a direct run to the byline, whips a ball in from the left and Lallana gets low down and glances a header in the opposite direction and into the bottom right hand corner for 2-0 just after half time. Scotland pressed all first half for the equaliser, cutting in, breaking on England but they just were not clinical. England's third was a corner from the left from Rooney, Cahill meets running into the near post and glances the ball backwards into the right hand side of the net. A good header and well worked. Life looks good for Gareth Southgate so far. I'll give him his chance, he wants to play the right well and attack with pace and be direct. The real test comes against the better teams so we'll see how he fairs against Spain and Germany, if he gets the job for the rest of the qualifiers that is. You can't rule out the FA appointing whoever. But for now, life is back on track. Just qualify and we'll access from there. You can't judge England on friendlies or matches against Lithuania and Scotland, the real test is getting to the World Cup in 2018 and putting a good show and progressing. Minimum they need is last 16. I use to say quarter finals, but we haven't seen a World Cup quarter final since 2006 and the individual quality isn't as good as the team in 2006. If they can click and play as a team though, then there is no reason England cannot be positive and aggressive with their play and cause a problem or two against the better teams. But this England, I'm not hopeful. Prove me wrong Three Lions.
