Short Celtic review

A quick review just after the game (literally).

I thought Celtic played well, it was nice to see Patrick Roberts get a goal, he looked ok and I thought Celtic pressed well. A team with more quality and Celtic pressing and work rate would have given City a real fun for their money. I thought City didn't test their keeper enough and were a bit too walky today. Always looking for a pass rather than shooting. The team selection was weird from City, Zaba and Fernando in CDM, Sagna at CB, it's odd. Why is Pep insisting on a stupid 3 at the back? We haven't won yet with it yet do so well with 4 and 1 sitting in front. Fernando can be the one in Fernandinho's absence. Fernando didn't play very well today but his real judgement will come in the next 3 premier league matches. Zabaleta is also an option there. So it was nice to see some cover there (first time this season). Maffeo and Adarbioyo looked ok, good Championship standard at the moment, why not loan them out in January? Clichy was inept, no wonder Pep prefers Kolarov. LB is a real issue. I hope it doesn't cost the team come the end of the season. I was impressed with Zaba, some lovely passes, tackles and the middle of the park really suits him as there isn't as much pace there. If he is ran at, though, it's a big problem (Fernando too, very similar players). Navas and Sane were not direct enough, though Sane did some great crosses at times. He needs to work on positioning, shooting, passing and when to pass, shoot and hold. Nolito was ok. He defended well and tracked back. Unlucky with the disallowed goal but he was offside. Both sides could have had penalties. a 1-1 draw was fair. Iheanacho scored a lovely goal on the counter, Gordon could have done better but a nice finish. Roberts made a lovely direct run at Clichy, shot at Caballero (poor today, distribution and passing was good but kicking and general goalkeeping skills for catches, calls, saves etc were poor) and went straight into the corner. A good goal but I'd be disappointed if I was Willy. I'd like to have seen Angelino and Foden today, even from the bench. The game meant nothing and showed. We need to be a lot better on Saturday evening away at the champions. Leicester. Gundogan needs to start that game, excellent today. His fitness is really improving. No reason why Yaya and Fernando can't be a midfield 3. No reason Delph can't feature (or Zaba) too. But I'll bring you more on that on my Leicester preview on Friday evening. Until then, peace.
