Bergeron and Rask Lead Bruins Over Devils
The Boston Bruins defeated the New Jersey Devils 2-1 last night and improved to 3-1 on the season. The Bruins played pretty well as a whole, but two players really shined in last night's win. Patrice Bergeron and Tuukka Rask both had tremendous games.
For Bergeron, this was his first game of the season because of injury. He made his impact immediately felt and scored the game winning goal for the Bruins. Boston dominated the first period, but failed to score a goal. The second period was more even, but neither team could score. Goals finally came in the third period, but it was New Jersey that struck first. Brad Marchand tied the game halfway through the third, then Bergeron came to save the day. It looked like the game was going to go to overtime, but with 1:15 left on the clock, Bergeron ripped a shot past Corey Schneider and put the B's up 2-1. That would be the final score, and Bergeron showed just how important he is to this team.
Tuukka Rask also played a spectacular game for the Bruins. He wasn't tested much in the first period, but ended up making 28 saves in the win. The only goal that New Jersey scored was a deflection that Rask had no chance on. Other than that, he was perfect. This was Rask's second spectacular game in row. He was superb on Monday in Winnipeg, also giving up just one goal. He made some incredible game saving saves in that game. Rask has looked really good so far this season, and appears ready to have a bounce back year. He hasn't been great the past couple years, but it looks like he's returning to form. Hopefully he plays like a $7 million goalie all season long. I'm really interested to see how Rask looks against Montreal tomorrow night. The Canadiens have not lost in regulation yet and are always a tough test for the Bruins. Rask will have to have a huge game if Boston wants to beat their arch rival.
