Super Bowl Review

Super Bowl LII

The event that I watched was Super Bowl LII. Obviously most people watched that game last night and unfortunately it was not the result that we were hoping for. I thought that for the most part Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth did a great job of announcing this game. Usually they try to get the top announcers for these games and I have always thought that they are better than any of the other commentators. I could easily follow the game action as they both did a great job of analyzing the plays. It is always difficult because you never want to show that you are favoring 1 team and I thought they were great. They definitely enhanced my enjoyment of watching and listening to the game.

The part that I really enjoyed was when there was some controversial catch or no catch calls and they both gave their honest opinions. They actually happened to be wrong the 2 times that they thought it was no catch but it was actually ruled a catch on the field. It is hard to tell what is a catch and what is not a catch in the National Football League. They also enhanced my viewing of the game because when a big play happens you can hear it from their voices compared to when there was a run of like 2 or 3 yards, there is not too much to be excited about. The thing that I liked the most about this broadcast is how when there was a stoppage in play they always had something interesting to talk about whether it was showing stats from previous Super Bowls or even talking about some of the celebrities that were attending this football game. The broadcast basically never got boring. It was tough to dislike anything in this broadcast but if I had to pick one thing it would be how every once in a while Al Michaels would make a little mistake. For example, one time he referred to the Detroit Lions hiring Patriots coordinator Matt Patricia. Instead of saying the Detroit Lions he said the Detroit Pistons. He realized a little after that he made a mistake. This is a minor thing but obviously you do not want to mess up your broadcast too much especially when it is the most important game of the year.

I like how Collinsworth goes back sometimes and mentions how different the Receivers play now compared to when he used to be a Wide Receiver. I think Collinsworth does a better job in this game but overall it was a great broadcast. Another thing I liked is how they even mentioned how good the halftime show was. If I was broadcasting the game I would say the one thing that I could learn to do is to possibly talk a little slower sometimes. These broadcasters tend to like to talk fast when the game is going on. Al and Cris could not have done much of a better job considering this is the biggest game of the year and they have everybody in the world watching this game.
