Packers Trim Roster to 75
UPDATE: The Packers cut P Tim Masthay, finally, and brought in P Jake Schum from Tampa Bay. He managed to be the starting punter for the Buccaneers, and many Packers' fans know that it has been time to move on from the incumbently terrible Masthay. In this article, I had previously written that I was surprised that the Packers chose Masthay over Peter Mortell, the other punter who was waived by the Packers this week.
In light of the thirteen roster moves the Packers made over the past few days, the big news among the NFC North is the Teddy Bridgewater injury. I think that the Vikings can win plenty of games without him, as I believe that the Vikings are good anyways, he is just what makes him great (by the way, Shaun Hill and Sconnie Joel Stave are the backups). But, this article isn't about that, and if you want more information, type in "vikings" anywhere. But, on to the Green and Gold.

The link above shows where my information is coming from on who was cut, and actually it was only seven players who were outright released. They are WR's Harvey Binford, Jamel Johnson and WR Ed Williams, DL Demetris Anderson, LB Derrick Matthews, CB Randall Jette, and P Peter Mortell. The only real surprise among these players in my opinion is Mortell, as I am among the many, many, many Packers' fans who hoped that Tim Masthay would finally be cut. I know Masthay had an "all-time great season in Packers' history" or whatever, but anybody who is anybody knows that Masthay was terrible last year, the year before and mediocre prior to that. The other six guys who were cut are irrelevant, and weren't even close to the bubble. It's a bit of a bummer Randall Jette didn't make it, only because I think he has the coolest name in camp outside of FB Alstevis Squirewell.
The Packers also traded OLB Lerentee McCray to the Buffalo Bills for an undisclosed 2018 draft choice, and it is likely that it will be their 6th or 7th rounder. The rest of the roster spots were freed up by players landing on injured reserve, and likely will rejoin the team next season. Honestly, though, I had no idea any of these guys were hurt either. They include RB John Crockett, TE's Kennard Backman and Mitchell Henry, G Josh Walker and C Jacob Flores. Walker and Crockett both had a shot at making the team, and I was a little surprised to see them cut among this group prior to finding out about their injuries. Same with Backman. It's too bad, since Crockett was having a good preseason and Backman looked like he was coming around as well.
