Why Carson Wentz is the real MVP

Going into week 13 of the 2017/18 NFL season Carson Wentz looked like the clear cut favorite for the leagues MVP. Wentz was playing the best football of his life and the Eagles were at the top of the league with a 10-2 record. Wentz had the highest odds of winning the MVP according to Las Vegas until his week 13 season ending ACL injury. Since the injury many people have looked else where for the MVP. Many sports analysts think that a player cannot win the MVP with only 12 full game under their belt. As the season ended last week Carson Wentz, Tom Brady, and Todd Gurley are the front runners for the award. I am here to make the argument on why Carson Wentz should and will still win the MVP award this year.

Many people are giving Tom Brady the award because He is 40 years old and we have never seen a quarterback of his age play at such a high level. Brady having a great season at the age of 40 should not automatically put him ahead of a 25 year old quarterback. If you are so worried about the age number, you should take a good look at the football numbers from this year.

Wentz:

33 Passing Touchdowns

3,296 Passing Yards

299 Rushing Yards

7 Interceptions

74.4 QBR

Brady:

32 Passing Touchdowns

4,577 Passing Yards

28 Rushing Yards

8 Interceptions

70.2 QBR

Touchdown passes with a Torn ACL:

Brady- 0

Wentz- 1

Wentz leads Brady in Passing Touchdowns, Rushing Yards, Interceptions, Touchdown passes with a torn ACL, and QBR. If you calculate Touchdowns per game, Wentz throws 2.53 Tds per game compared to the 2 Per game that Brady throws. Carson Wentz finished 2nd in the league in passing touchdowns, 1 behind Russell Wilson who played in 16 games. If you look at both player stats and team success there is no real debate on which quarterback deserves the MVP award.

Todd Gurley is also in the discussion for the MVP award. The only word you can use to describe Gurleys season is "Freakish". Gurley ended the season with almost 2,100 all purpose yards. Gurley rushed for 1,305 yard and 13 td's, while also catching 64 passes for 788 yards and 6 td's. It is very uncommon for a position player other than a quarterback to win the MVP. 9 out of the last 10 MVP's have been quarterbacks with exceptions to RB Adrian Peterson in 2012. Peterson almost broke the single season rushing record with 2,097 rushing yards and 10 td's. Although Gurley has 3 more rushing touchdowns and had a better receiving year than Peterson did. Gurleys 1,305 rushing yards are not much to talk about. Todd Gurley is definitely a candidate for the MVP, but with statistics of past running back MVP's there is a small chance that he will win the award.

Carson Wentz statistically had one of the best season of all the quarterbacks in the league, while only playing 3/4 of the season. Wentz is the most important player for the Philadelphia Eagles and without him the Eagles have been going in a downward spiral. Since Wentz has been Injured the Eagles Super Bowl odds have dropped from number 1 to number 6. If Carson Wentz is not the MVP of the season then I don't know what a MVP is.
