Best Pro Hockey Team Part 5 : X-Ray Championship
In Article 4, the X-Ray Championship had just started and the first two winners were the 1931 Toronto Maple Leafs and the 1920 Montreal Canadiens. Game 3 was a matchups of these two teams. There was real world information for this game when on 1-20-1923 Montreal won 3-1, so this was added into the formula. Montreal won 5-2 to go to 2-0.
Game 6 was a rematch between the 1920 Toronto Maple Leafs and the 1920 Montreal Canadiens. All the real world information for this game had been used, so it was only offensive and defensive parameters were used to determine the winners. Toronto won this round 5-4.
Game 9 was for the X-Ray Championship and was between the 1932 New York Rangers and the 1930 Chicago Blackhawks. There was real world information for this game when on 11-27-1930, Chicago won 4-0. The Rangers overcame the deficit and won 5-4.
This set up a one game playoff with the 1920 Montreal Canadiens for the Whiskey/X-Ray Championship. The next game on the schedule for real world information came from a game played on 12-31-1927 when Montreal won 1-0. This did not stop the Rangers as they won 5-2. This cleared the way for a best two-of-three series with the 1919 Montreal Canadiens for the Uniform-X-Ray Championship which will be discussed in the next article.
