Devastation for Deshaun and the Texans

Deshaun Watson was the most exciting player in the NFL this season. The fact that he will now miss the remainder of his rookie season after tearing his ACL in practice on Thursday is nothing short of devastating. It is also crushing for a Texan’s team that had their sights set on the AFC South crown and perhaps, even a Super Bowl.

If you wanted to craft an argument that after seven career games that Watson had already established himself as a top ten NFL quarterback you wouldn’t find any quarrel from me. He was that sensational. Coming out of Clemson, Dabo Swinney, his collegiate head coach told all teams that if they passed on Deshaun, it would be like passing on Michael Jordan. Now that might be a bit of hyperbole, but Watson was spectacular to start his rookie season. So spectacular in fact that last week Richard Sherman, who rarely utters praise of anyone said that Watson “played the best game any quarterback has ever played” against the Seattle defense.

This season we have seen a multitude of stars go down with season-ending injuries. From J.J. Watt to Aaron Rodgers, from Odell Beckham Jr. to Eric Berry, from Julian Edelman to Joe Thomas, and now Deshaun Watson. The NFL is not only losing star players, but high-quality individuals. I write this for no other reason than to say that I will miss watching Deshaun Watson on run around on Sundays. He was on track to win the NFL’s Rookie of the Year. Now that is out the window, but my money is on him to win the 2018 NFL Comeback Player of the Year. It would only be right.
