My Thoughts on Kirk Cousins

In the NFL, if you have a quarterback you can win with, you have to pay him. Period. You can win with Kirk Cousins. Of course he's not at the same level as Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, but he also isn't as pathetic as Blaine Gabbert or Blake Bortles either. Each season with Cousins at the helm, the Redskins have a puncher's chance at the playoffs, and therefore the Super Bowl. That's really all you can ask for in professional sports - a shot at the title each and every season. You don't think the Browns or the Jaguars or the Rams or the 49ers would be ecstatic to have Cousins under center on their teams? You best believe they would want him because without a quarterback in this league you are irrelevant.

Cousins bet on himself -twice now - and won. He will cash in big time next off-season, and my prediction is that he departs the nation's capital. He wanted a long-term contract, but the Redskins foolishly were only interested in dating their quarterback. The franchise tag is a nice security blanket for teams, but to use it twice on an above average quarterback is either managerial incompetence or pure ignorance with respect to the quarterback market. Either way the Redskins messed up, big time. Kirk Cousins is good as gone.
