Reaction to Rams-Patriots Trade

In a shocking trade, the New England Patriots traded Brandin Cooks, along with a 4th-round pick, to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for the 23rd overall pick and a 6th rounder. I had three major takeaways from this deal.

1. The Patriots once again demonstrate their brilliance. Last year, New England traded their 32nd overall pick for Cooks, had him for one season, made the Super Bowl, and then shipped him off for a superior pick than the one they used to get him. That is Bill Belichick at his best.

2. The Patriots have ample draft ammunition. Belichick now has two 1st-rounders and two 2nd-rounders at his disposal in this year’s draft. If he has a quarterback that he thinks can be Brady’s successor, then he has the ability to move up and snag him. If not, he has more toys for his already plentiful toy chest.

3. What about Odell? The Rams were long rumored to be potential suitors for the Giants superstar wide receiver (if he were to be moved). With this trade, Sean McVay and company essentially punted on an Odell deal and all signs now point to Beckham Jr. continuing his career in New York.
