Week 10 Thoughts

The Saints are the best team in football. There are no “ands”, “ifs”, or “buts” about it. The drubbing that they handed the Bengals on Sunday was a sight to behold. Drew Brees is playing at an extraordinarily high level and Sean Payton’s defense is serviceable, which is all it needs to be given the Saints array of offensive weaponry.

Andrew Luck is back. After missing all of last season and the majority of 2015, the Colts savior has returned with a vengeance. On Sunday, he absolutely carved up a vaunted Jaguars defense. The Colts currently stand at 4-5, but given their favorable schedule and the lack of depth in the AFC, I wouldn’t be shocked if Luck put the Colts on his back and carried the franchise to the postseason.

The Bears offense was clicking. There have been a few games this season in which Chicago’s offense, headed by Mitchell Trubisky, has really had it clicking. This Sunday was one of those days. On the afternoon, The Bears racked up 34 points en route to a critical divisional victory over the Lions. Given their defensive pedigree and key addition of Khalil Mack, if Chicago can just get consistent output from their offensive unit the Bears could emerge as the prohibitive favorites in the NFC North.

The Titans made a statement. Tennessee absolutely ran New England out of the building on Sunday. To me, this game was more about what Mike Vrabel’s squad was able to do as opposed to what Bill Belichick’s team was not. The Titans thoroughly controlled both lines of scrimmage and made Tom Brady uneasy stepping up in the pocket. I am still not in love with Marcus Mariota, but if the Titans can play this physical brand of football they do not need superb play from the quarterback position.

The NFC East remains a question mark. Despite their 6-3 record, I am still not convinced the Redskins are any good, and have been waiting for the Eagles to put it together for several weeks now. With Dallas and Philly both at 4-5, this division, no matter how morbid it may be, is still for the taking.
