Packers Release Gunter

Milwaukee, WI --- When the Packers released defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois many viewed this as a necessity to make room for returning wide receiver Geronimo Allison, who was suspended the first game of the season.

As it turned it out, it was actually defensive back LaDarius Gunter, the team's number one cornerback from the end of last season, who was released.

Gunter was thrusted into the number one spot late last season due to Sam Shields being placed on injured reserve, and Demarius Randall and Quintin Rollins suffering injuries. He was outmatched by other teams best receivers, particularly in the playoffs when he was matched against Odell Beckham, Dez Bryant and Julio Jones.

At the end of training camp he fell to the number five spot on the depth chart. To raise his value, the Packers moved him to the slot.

On Sunday, against the Seahawks, Gunter played only two snaps on defense and 14 on special teams; far less than Davon House (49), Quintin Rollins (46), Demarius Randall (40) and rookie Kevin King (6).

If he clears waivers, the Packers may sign him to the practice squad.
