NBA: Is Lebron James the front runner for MVP?

Lebron James

The Cleveland Cavaliers currently have the second best record in the league and that's in large part due to Lebron James. For the first time in his career, his team started 6-0 and the Cavs look like a well oiled machine. With the Cavs most likely going to be the best team in the East and with the way they are playing right now, is Lebron James the front runner for MVP so far?

Lebron James stats

Lebron is currently averaging 23 points, 8.9 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game. The points are low, but he's averaging more rebounds and assists than he had the past few seasons. That's damn near a triple double. Something that hasn't been done since Oscar Robertson. And Lebron has the skills and opportunities to keep those numbers up throughout the season.

He hasn't had any spectacular games, but he's been consistent from the start my if the Cavs get the best record in the NBA and he puts up numbers similar to those, he will win his fifth MVP award.

Other NBA MVP candidates

Aside from DeMar DeRozan, who I believe will cool off as the season progresses, majority of the other NBA stars that are putting up numbers, their teams will most likely not have a good record.

Russell Westbrook, Damian Lillard, and James Harden are all putting up great scoring and assist numbers to start the season. In fact, James Harden has had several 15 assists games already. However, their teams will end up more towards the bottom of their conferences. Hell, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets may not even make the playoffs (more okc than Houston). Barring some historic numbers, it may be hard for  those players to win it.

So as of right now, Lebron James may be in the lead for MVP. Chris Paul is making a case as the Clippers have the best record in the NBA, but we will see. Steph Curry and Kevin Durant cancels out and Kawhi Leonard is a top candidate, but is trailing Lebron.
