NBA to announce award winners after postseason, good or bad?

According to ESPN.com, "The NBA will announce the winner of the MVP and its other major awards during a new postseason awards show. The league said Tuesday that the NBA Awards Show will be held June 26 in New York and televised on TNT". The awards are usually distributed one by one during the post season, but with the new format, the players will all get their awards on the same day after the NBA Finals. Now is this a good thing or is it bad? I can actually see it both ways and I will explain each side.

NBA Award Show: The Good

For players that are playing in the NBA playoffs, receiving awards can sometimes be a distraction. There's a whole ceremony and press conference that needs to take place, but they are in the midst of trying to win an NBA championship. All it does is distract the players and make them lose focus and practice time on getting an award that they cannot even truly enjoy until the end of the season anyway. The award show itself will be fun because it will be on TNT and the Inside the NBA crew is always entertaining.

NBA Awards Show: The Bad

Sometimes losing out on an award that you think you was going to get is motivating. There have been plenty of instances when a player got spurned for something (think Damien Lillard and the All Star Game a few years ago) and would go on to play exceptionally well. From a fans perspective, it would be annoying to wait all the way till June to find out who the MVP is. Another issue would be the with the candidates that lose out on the awards. First, how many people will be invited or is it like the Emmy's or Oscars where they will have the top nominees only?

I am leaning towards the good. I think it has some potential, but we will have to wait and see. What do you think of this concept? Is the awards show good or bad? Comment below and thanks for reading!
