UCLA Loses Anigbogu To A Torn Meniscus
Steve Alford did a heck of a job recruiting in Westwood, getting TJ Leaf after he de-committed from Arizona, Lonzo Ball and his brothers in the future and Ike Anigbogu to bring in the best class he's had to date.
Anigbogu may not have much offensive talent, which fits in as the Bruins have a need for a clog in the paint to anchor the defense and make opponents think twice about attacking the basket. At 6-10, Anigbogu is a physical defender that can also swat shots.
Fortunately for Alford, he has other options to clog in the low post, with Thomas Welsh, who was the projected starter and Leaf, who can spot time at the five slot. In a perfect world, Welsh and Anigbogu would be able to play together as they have contrasting styles. After the trio, Alford has Gyorgy Goloman, a 6'11 junior, Ikenna Okwarabizie at 6'10 and Alex Olesinski, a sophomore at his disposal. Goloman is a physical utility guy, who will probably take Anigbogu's minutes until recovery.
Another bright spot, the Bruins are hopeful he can return just before Thanksgiving, missing the match-ups against Pacific, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State and San Diego, four teams the Bruins should have little trouble of disposing.
