LSU Blows Out Southern Miss, but Ole Miss is Next

Hello everyone,

For the second week, LSU was able to destroy an outmatched opponent in beating Souther Miss 45-10.  This was the second week with over 200 yards of passing and over 200 yards rushing showing good balance.  The welcome change since the start of Coach O's era has been that the offense is rarely stagnant, gets explosive plays, doesn't tire the defense out, but most importantly stays on schedule.  The Tigers are doing a much better job of staying out of passing situations and keeping defenses off balanced.   Plus playmakers Derrius Guice, Malachi Dupre, and DJ Chark are coming alive.

That being said Missouri and Southern Miss should be dominated by a team with LSU's level of talent.  The first real test of the Coach O era will be next week when Chad Kelly and Ole Miss rolls into town.  It will be the toughest test the defense will have seen all year long (including the Les Miles coached games), and will be the toughest defense since Coach O took over (Les faced off with a tough Wisconsin team in week 1).  That will be the game that Coach O can really get his new team ready.

It also starts a brutal stretch where LSU will face five currently ranked SEC Teams (#23 Ole Miss, #1 Alabama, #15 Florida, #17 Arkansas, and #6 Texas A&M.  Running that gauntlet with one or two losses will be impressive, but to come out undefeated would put him in a position to command some consideration for the permanent coaching job.  I am rooting for you Coach O.  I believe he has the talent, the enthusiasm, and the ability to get them up for all of those challenges.

Geaux Coach O!
