Flores walks off the D-backs, Mets win back to back for the first time in 5 weeks

The Diamondbacks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second with a 1-out double just out of the reach of Jose Reyes, followed by a 2-out RBI single by catcher John Ryan Murphy just out of the reach of Amed Rosario. Matz finished the inning by striking out his counterpart, Diamondback's pitcher Patrick Corbin.

With Mesoraco on first following a HBP, Michael Conforto quickly answered with a 2-run shot off the facing of the upper deck in right field to give New York its first lead of the night, 2-1.

Corbin's struggles continued in the third, after Matz set down the D-backs in order in the top half of the inning, Corbin walked Nimmo and Cabrera to lead off the inning before settling in and retiring Flores, Bruce, and Mesoraco. Corbin still needed 24 pitches to get out of the inning.

Paul Goldschmidt took an inside fastball deep off Matz in the 4th to tie the game at 2. Matz almost escaped the inning, but with a runner on, John Ryan Murphy delivered again, a 2-run shot of his own to give Arizona a 4-2 lead.

Mickey Callaway pulled Matz after just 70 pitches and 4 innings, likely due to Matz not being mature about yet another inning where everything unraveled on him. Seth Lugo came in and delivered 2 shutout innings.

In the sixth, Corbin ran into trouble again, after back to back leadoff singles by Flores and Bruce, the Mets had first and third and no outs. Devin Mesoraco popped out to the catcher in foul territory after working the count to 3-1. Conforto drew a walk to load the bases with 1 out, but Jose Reyes popped a 1-0 pitch up for the second out. Adrian Gonzalez hit for Seth Lugo and flied out to left to end the inning.

Paul Sewald came in to replace Lugo in the 7th and worked a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.

Ramos worked a scoreless 8th with a couple of Ks as well.

With their backs against the wall, the Mets got production from the middle of the lineup. Jay Bruce lead off the inning with his second single of the night. Then Devin Mesoraco, who has proved to be a solid addition to the team, tied it up with one swing, a home run to left center field knotted things up at 4.

Familia, fresh off his 12th save of the year last night, entered the 9th to try and keep things tied. A 1-2-3 inning for Familia with the help of a strong looking sinker pushed it to the bottom of the 9th, tied at 4, with the top of the order for the Mets.

Brandon Nimmo delivered his first hit against a lefty all year, a double off the wall in right center. Asdrubal Cabrera put down a perfect bunt down the 3rd base line, and witht he 3rd baseman playing back, Cabrera reached, advancing Nimmo to 3rd. With Flores up and a base open, the D-backs chose to pitch to Wilmer instead of walking him to get to the lefty Bruce, and Flores made them pay with a walk off sac fly, and his 8th career walk off RBI.

The Mets win back to back games for the first time since April 11th and 13th, and win their first series since their trip to San Diego, and their first series win at home since the Brewers came to town over a month ago. It's a big momentum boost for the Amazins, with Thor on the mound tomorrow and a chance to sweep the first place D-backs. The Mets win a game they trailed 4-2 in the 8th, with the help of some clutch pitching and a shutdown bullpen. It's a great night in Flushing.
