There's No Place Like Home

Indiana University is home to one of the greatest venues in college sports history. Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, one of the most electric environments in sports, home of Hoosier basketball. When the Hoosiers are playing a top ten team in Assembly Hall you might as well consider that one a victory for the Hoosiers.

North Carolina came into last nights game undefeated and ranked third in the country. Jay Bilas even said himself he believes UNC is "the real deal", Hoosier fans would make sure people thought otherwise. The North Carolina game was one of the most electric sports environments I have ever been apart of. From top to bottom the stands were jam packed with students and dedicated fans, by tip off you could barely hear the guy next to you. North Carolina had no chance at winning this game from the time when students started lining up for the game the day before.

Indiana University is home to 48,514 students, and most of those students love their Hoosier basketball. The last six top ten opponents to come into Assembly Hall have not been able to get past the noise of the Hoosiers on the court and in the stands. How can you not play your best with over 17,000 dedicated fans investing their energy in you.

The fans go first, the fans hype up the players before the game. Next it is the players turn, it is almost as if the players take all of the crowds energy and then slowly gives it back throughout the game. Thomas Bryant takes that energy and uses it as if it was March every single game. When O.G. Anunoby caught a high pass and slammed it home, I felt the energy back inside me that I earlier gave out at tip off. This is a game that Assembly Hall was made for. You almost get flashbacks of the Isaiah Thomas and Bob Knight days, that is how good this team plays at home.

Tom Crean has this way about him on the court during the game, the pacing, the yelling, and the questionable late game calls. Tom Crean does everything he can in order to make you hate yourself for loving him as a coach. Tom Crean at the end of the day is an incredible coach, the energy he gives out during games is almost more than his own players.

The Indiana Hoosiers are have a very solid squad this season, as they showed last night against North Carolina, true title contender potential. If the Hoosiers played every game at Assembly Hall they might win the National Championship every year.
Sadly they cannot and have a tough road ahead of them, but be hopeful Hoosiers fans, if the Chicago Cubs can win a World Series anything is possible.
