Before talking and jumping SHIP with the Pats again, how about the last calendar year of Sports in general. Villanova and Carolina gave us one of if not the most thrilling men's basketball championships'; the Golden State Warriors won a record-setting 73 games behind our first unanimous MVP Curry yet to only blow a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals to Bron and the Cavs; Clemson shocked most by knocking off a seemingly unbeatable Rolling-Tide with a last second touchdown; the Cubs won the World Series for the first time in 108 years in a decisive Game 7. Now we can add the icing on the RINGS: The Patriots behind 12 pulled off the largest comeback in Super Bowl history (25 points) ending with the first OT win in the 51 year History of the biggest game.
15 years after winning their first title together, we've never seen the Patriots win one like this one before. I've never seen a game like the game played last night -- "turn it off and get ready for work tomorrow" played over-and-over in my head. 28-3, TWENTY EIGHT to THREE??!! An astonishing comeback to beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime on Sunday night, left all sports fans DEFLATED. I said it before the fantasy football season started, "Brady had nothing to lose and everything to gain" after serving a 4-game suspension. Brady was on a mission to make Roger Goodell hand him the Lombardi Trophy as he did last night. Brady set the record for most Super Bowl wins by a quarterback, and Bill Belichick tied the mark for the most titles by a coach.
The beginning of this game looked as though the Atlanta Falcons first Super Bowl victory in franchise history was sealed. Matt Ryan looked like the consensus M.V.P. as he's been all year, Julio Jones continued to make catches most receivers wont make in a career despite seeing double and triple coverages. Surprisingly, the all of sudden Falcons' defense had the Pats O rattled, thumped, and beaten after repeatedly putting hands on Tom Brady.
"Pressure Him" the blueprint for beating Brady has been reinforced time and time again. Atlanta did, they did it without bringing more than 3 or 4 rushers. Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett had three sacks in last nights game, Jarrett only managed 3 sacks all season. As I eluded to, even when Brady got the ball off the Falcons put their hands on him as much as I've seen with 16 QB hits. At times, Brady was overthrowing, underthrowing, tap dancing like the late great Gregory Hines as Stephen A would say. 12 simply made bad choices, it seemed like the game's signature image would be this one of Falcons cornerback Robert Alford returning a pick-six to go up 21-0 in the second quarter. Pass the sticks if we're playing Madden.
ESPN's win-probability chart had the Falcons at a 99 percent chance of winning after Atlanta had scored their 4th TD in the third quarter. We can scream at those win-probability formulas all we want, but the computer is usually right in these cases, right?? Teams up twenty-five with 3 to play in the third tend to go on and win, and to go along with that no team had ever blown a lead of more than 10 points in the Super Bowl per ESPN stats and information. No margin of error for Brady and the Pats when you roughly had a 1% chance of pulling off the greatest comeback in SB History!
