The Commonweath Clash is on.

Virginia Tech has been kicked in the jimmies lately on the hardwood by in-state rival Virginia.  Monday night the Hokies kicked back.

Behind a sizzling second half shooting performance (16-27 [59.3%]) Virginia Tech defeated #4 Virginia 70 - 68 to end a seven game losing streak to the Wahoos.

“I’m happy for our guys." Virginia Tech head coach Buzz Williams said.  "I’m proud of our guys. I wish it counted for more than one win,"

Wouldn't that be nice.

Virginia Tech is off to their best start in the ACC in 9 years and are 10-5 overall.

Looming next for the Hokies is a Saturday date at Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on the 14th ranked Duke Blue Devils.

Hey you beat your in-state rival for the first time in seven games it would be a hell of a way to back up that win than by defeating last year's national champion on its home floor in front of the Cameron Crazies.

That hasn't happened in nine years.
