Saturday was the final home football game as the coach at Virginia Tech for Frank Beamer. And it didn't exactly go well for his beloved Hokies.

Playing #17th ranked (AP) North Carolina in an ACC Matchup at Lane Stadium is a tall task. The Hokies put up quite the battle holding the high-powered Tar Heel offense in check for most of the day.

The game was made worse by this incident in the 3rd quarter when Tech DL Dadi Nicolas got upset after an offsides call against him. He bounced, arms a flailing towards referee Ron Cherry.

One of those flailing arms hit Cherry who promptly dropped his flag adding 15-yards more to the penalty and further digging his team in a huge hole.

Surprisingly Nicolas didn't get tossed from the game. Yes, it was an accident...but that is not an excuse for hitting a ref...
