Lady Mustangs twin towers loom LARGE!!!!
By Rich Winter
Well, managed to make it over to Kyle Saturday for the Crow Creek vs. Little Wound game. Got to know a few of the Crow Creek folks during the day and learned a lot about the Lady Chieftain youngsters by getting a chance to watch them play.
While that game was close for almost a half, Little Wound really pulled away late and earned the 72-46 win. Couple nights earlier, the Lady Mustangs took down Red Cloud, 67-60 and Little Wound looks ready as they head to Rapid,
In that Crow Creek game, Janay Jumping Eagle got it going early and had double-digit scoring at the half. Nice variety to her game and she can get to the hoop or hit from deep or pull up mid-range. Miracle Spotted Bear got it going in the second half, as did everyone else. Really solid effort from a bunch of ladies that can run, shoot and defend.
But, perhaps what impressed me the most was the play of the Twin Towers, 6-foot-0 juniors, Jacynda Blacksmith and Paula Yellow Boy. Impressed early that Yellow Boy has a deft touch to three-point range. Both of them have good jump shots and if you leave them alone, they'll shoot.
Big, tough and rangy in the middle are these ladies. They help, they recover and they easily blocked a half dozen Lady Chieftain shots. Both can run and Blacksmith might have the best baseball pass in the business.
As Little Wound gets ready on their assault on Lakota Nation, Little Wound, sitting at No. 2 looks awfully tough early in the season.
