Argue or Agree? - About San Miguel Beermen, 2017 Phil. Cup and etc.

(c) PBA Media Bureau

This is an article that can easily anger you or appease you. The articles will be a sharing of some of my opinions and conclusions in the happenings around the league. I will try to minimize using numbers, as much as possible.

So, will you agree with my takes or do you want to argue with me? If you want to argue, the comment box below is there for you.

Here are my takes, enjoy!

San Miguel could burnout
It was the opening game of the season and coach Leo rotated his players like it was a playoff game. All the starters played 33 minutes or more. Cabagnot and Lassiter played more than 38 minutes. If coach Leo continue to rotate that way, the negative effect of it could be huge and it will be felt in the playoffs. Also, Arnold Van Opstal and Rashawn McCarthy can play 5-10 minutes to gain experience.

Star should give Lee more minutes at 3

Last night, Star climbed back from a double-digit deficit with a line-up that feature Lee at the 3, together with Barroca and Melton. I love what I saw. Lee's big body and guard-speed will help him defend the SFs of their opponent. Barroca and Melton are a great backcourt defensive combo. On offense, they play more loosely which creates better quality shots.

This could be the most entertaining Phil. Cup of the 21st century
Maybe, my memory is just tricking me but the combination of big line-up changes in the offseason, arrival of a promising draft class and the projected internal growth of the young teams made me crave for this conference. The PBA universe will surely follow the James Yap-Purefoods teleserye.

Mac Belo, Kevin Ferrer and Jio Jalalon have made a lot of noise in the amateur ranks, can they also do that in the professional league. Coach Yeng is in a new team. Rain or Shine will be very different! Alaska is still on the road to redemption. Globalport has a very interesting line-up.

Enjoy this conference guys. This could be one of a kind.
