Trade Analysis: Meralco-Globalport

(c) PBA Media Bureau

Trades are starting to pile up. Let us dissect this latest one.

Globalport: Receive Rey Guevarra
Meralco: Receive Joseph Yeo

A trade of a player who averaged 23 minutes per game in his career for a player who averaged 10.7 minutes in his career is unfair. It is not as if Rey is still a prospect, he is already 30 years old.
Verdict: UNFAIR

TEAM ANALYSIS
GLOBALPORT

Received Rey Guevarra
Sent Joseph Yeo

Even though the trade is unfair, the deduction of a guard from their rotation is a plus already. Joseph Yeo was added last year, in exchange for a 1st round pick, to support their twin headed monster in the backcourt. But he never found his footing. Rey Guevarra has never proven himself to be more than a bench guy but with his athleticism, he should be a good fit with the fast pace scheme offense and defense of Globalport.

MERALCO
Received Joseph Yeo
Sent Rey Guevarra

Excellent trade for the Bolts. If the rumors are true, Jimmy Alapag will not come back for another tour of duty so Yeo will basically fill the spot that he will vacate. The Ninja will bring playmaking ability that the PG position lacks, until Newsome was tasked to play the point. The Bolts just hope though that he will not take too much shots away from Newsome.
