Trevor Siemian Has Earned The Right To Be Broncos' Starting Quarterback Next Season

The Super Bowl 50 Champs, Denver Broncos, will not compete in this season's NFL playoffs. To some this was a shocker but to others it was expected. The Broncos are currently 8-7 and are ready for this season to end. This will be the first time that the Broncos did not make the playoffs since John Elway took over as general manager of the Broncos in 2011. Elway has worked with the likes of quarterbacks Tim Tebow, Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler, Trevor Siemian, and Paxton Lynch with a record of 66-29 (.695).

John Elway has done a great job with the Broncos since getting the job as GM. The best thing he ever did was bringing Peyton Manning to Denver, going to the Super Bowl twice winning it once. Peyton Manning broke plenty of records as Denver's quarterback, not to mention winning MVP in the 2013 season. Another thing that Elway did was getting Von Miller to stay with Denver signing a 6 year $114,500,000 contract during the offseason.

The Denver Broncos drafted Trevor Siemian (7th Round, 33rd Pick) in the 2015 NFL Draft, chosen personally by Elway. With this choice, Elway had once again proved that he is a great GM.

Coach Gary Kubiak and Elway decided that starting Trevor Siemian this season was the best option, and it really was. So far in only 13 games played (missed two games due to injury) this season, Siemian has played great. Trevor has thrown for 3,195 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only 9 interceptions so far this season.

In Trevor's first career road game against the Bengals this season, he threw for 312 yards, 4 touchdowns, and no interceptions in a winning effort. With that performance, Siemian became the first player to throw for 300+ yards, 4 touchdowns, and no interceptions for a player's first game (where he started and played the whole game) on the road. People could not believe that he was able to pull that off, showing people that he can play football.

Despite the season Trevor has played, a lot of the Broncos' fans believe that Paxton Lynch should be the #1 quarterback next season, which has me shaking my head. In the three games Paxton has played, he has thrown for 497 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception for a quarterback rating of 27.9 and a player rating of 79.2. Those stats does not impress me one bit, but Siemian's stats does.

Sure the Broncos are 2-1 when Lynch plays and 6-6 when Siemian plays but look at the teams Lynch played against. No disrespect to the Jaguars (Broncos won) and the Buccaneers (Broncos won) but those two teams are not playoff worthy teams. The one loss where Lynch played for the Broncos was against the Falcons. The Falcons are definitely a playoff worthy team with Matt Ryan (QB) and Julio Jones (WR). Also, in the Broncos win against the Jaguars, Lynch threw for 104 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions in a game where he started! 104 yards against the Jaguars, shaking my head. Another thing, in the Broncos win against the Buccaneers, Trevor started the game but had to leave due to injuring his foot, he actually thrown for 68 yards (5-7), 1 touchdown and no interceptions.

If you are a diehard Broncos fan, then you should know why the Broncos are not in the playoffs this season. If you are going to blame Siemian, then blame John Elway. There was a reason why Elway chose to draft Siemian in the 2015 NFL draft and I see why he did. Give the guy a break people, this was his rookie season and to be honest he played like a veteran.

To be honest if Trevor does not start next season, I would rather see Elway get in his football uniform and play rather than Paxton Lynch. Lynch is not there yet and will have to wait a couple of seasons to get where he wants to. Maybe the Broncos could trade him for an offensive linemen, Lynch does have solid trade value.

Peyton Manning and Von Miller earned their contracts with the Broncos, and so will Trevor Siemian if he hasn't already.
