They have depth, talent, and a very patient Head Coach in Dana Altman. Let’s start with the Ducks basketball team depth. They have two tremendous shot blockers in 6’ 9” Jordan Bell and 6’ 10” Chris Boucher who are averaging over 2 blocks per game. The two players are also very good rebounders and can score in bunches at times. They have some more height on the team with Roman Sorkin at 6’ 10” and Kavell Bigby-Williams at 6’ 11” So with 4 big men down low as a shot blocking presence and rebounding presence, the Ducks big men will certainly help the team make a deep run into the NCAA Tournament. As far as scoring threats are concerned, I have seen Tyler Dorsey and Dillon Brooks go on scoring spurts in certain games. More specifically when Tyler Dorsey hit 8 three point shots against Washington and when Dillon Brooks scored 28 points against USC on the road where he went 9-10 on field goals and 4-4 on three point shots. This was by far his best game of the season, which proved to other teams that he is one of the strongest players in the Pac-12 and the nation. He is currently part of the Wooden Award midseason top 25 list of players and just recently won his 3rd Pac-12 player of the week award. So Brooks has clearly been the leader of this impressive squad that has gone 24-4 this year, with quality losses coming to ranked teams in Baylor and UCLA. Their other bad losses included losing at Colorado and at home against Georgetown. In my book, I’d say that essentially makes them a 24-4 team with only two bad losses, so their overall resume looks pretty strong, and appealing to the Tourney Committee. What would be an interesting matchup to see would be if the Ducks got placed out in the West Region with Gonzaga as a number 1 seed, while the Ducks were given a number 2 seed. We could see a matchup of the Ducks and Zags in the Elite Eight to go to the Final Four. That is a matchup I’m sure a lot of people are hoping to see. Overall though, the Ducks have had a pretty solid season and have been one of the most exciting and impressive scoring teams in the nation to watch. They have won their last 23 out of 25 games this season. That is a pretty impressive stat, and Duck fans are hoping they can keep that momentum going into the tournament. These are all strong reasons why the Ducks should have a great chance to make a deep run into the NCAA Tournament this year.
