Preview: Who to Bet at The Open

The Open Championship will get underway on Thursday and here's how to win some money. I gave a break down of the players to win, get a top 10, and to stay away from at Carnoustie.

Who To Bet For The Win

Dustin Johnson (12-1): DJ came out and said that he will be hitting his driver a lot this week on the tee, and with how baked out Carnoustie is, he could have a short iron on every hole. He's first in just about every stat tee to green and plus he has decent history at The Open finishing T2 in 2011 and was the 36 hole leader at St. Andrews in 2015.

Russell Knox (66-1): He is one of the hottest players in the world right. He came in 2nd in the French Open three weeks ago and then won the Irish Open two weeks ago. He said his putting is in top shape right now. He played well in the US Open this year finishing T12. Plus you must throw money on the hometown Scotsman.

Danny Willett (150-1): I just feel like you can throw a couple of bucks on him at 150-1. He's flying way under the radar and is starting to return back to form when he won The Masters. He finished 6th at the Irish Open, 19th at the Scottish Open and 8th at the Italian Open a couple weeks earlier. He finished in 6th place in 2015 at The Open.

Who To Bet For a Top 10 Finish

Sergio Garcia (3-1): The Spaniard might not win it, but I feel pretty confident he'll finish in the top 10. First, he finished 2nd last time The Open was played at Carnoustie and he lead after the first three rounds before loosing in a playoff to Padraig Harrington. He's got a great track record finishing in the top 10, ten times in his career, I think he will make it 11 this week. Plus, he's finished in the top 12 in his last two tournaments played.

Ian Poulter (5-1): He has really rejuvenated his career this year and he is back into the top 30 in the World Rankings. In his last 10 events, he's finished outside the top 30 just once which was a 44th place finish at The Masters. He also has a decent record at The Open with three top 10 finishes.

Who To Fade

Rickie Fowler (16-1): I would love to see Rickie get his major, but people just keep throwing money on him, when he has yet to prove that he could do it. The fact that he has the second best odds along side Justin Rose is unbelievable. The last three years at The Open he's finished T30, T46, T22.

Bubba Watson (80-1): The Open isn't made for Bubba's big slices or anything like that. Although he has won three times this year, he shouldn't be on anyone's list of potential winners this week. In nine appearances at The Open, Bubba has missed the cut four times and has never finished higher than 23rd.
