RBC Canadian Open Betting Picks

If you’re like me you’re probably still a little hungover from the spectacle that was the British Open. I set the alarm for 6am each morning and watched till coverage ended from Thursday thru Sunday. It was entertaining from start to finish and the change in weather from day to day made Royal Birkdale play so different by the hour. The course was in great shape and produced an Open that will be talked about for ages. A lot of people have a lot of opinions on Spieth’s win and the controversial 13th hole on Sunday. Mine is that Spieth’s ability to keep it together, save bogey and go on to play the last 5 holes in nearly perfect fashion is exactly why he’s the greatest major champion of this new era. He flipped the switch when he had too, and it was incredible to watch.

In addition to being entertaining, the week was also a profitable one. Kuchar to finish top 5 and Grace to finish top 10 carried me to a nice week. Also went 3-1 in tournament matchups and won some props and made cut bets along the way.

Now, back to reality and the regular PGA tour rotation. This week it's the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey GC in Ontario, Canada. It plays 7200-7300 yards and is a par 72. For the first time in a while we have a course with four gettable par 5s and scoring should be pretty low overall. The course will not play too long for anyone, but the bombers will have an advantage on these par 5s and some of the potential driver-wedge par 4s.

Looking into the weather all I really saw was potential rain Thursday afternoon and winds increasing from 5-10 mph in the morning to 10-15 mph in the afternoon on Thursday and Friday. There is also potential rain on the weekend, but we need our guys to get there before we worry about that. I wouldn’t worry too much about the weather, but if you’re betting any First Round Leaders I’d lean toward the guys going off early Thursday.

The tournament’s overwhelming favorite is world #1 Dustin Johnson at 6/1. I think those odds are pretty short but he has back to back 2nd place finishes at Glen Abbey GC and I could definitely see him dominating his way to victory this week. I will not be taking him at 6/1 but will be taking him in a tournament matchup. I’ll be leaning toward the bombers this week but guys like Snedeker and Furyk have had success here before. Now onto my plays.
