Tom Seaver's time with the Sox

Seaver's Topps Traded card

Some players spend their whole careers in Boston, while others spend less than half a season. One of the players who played his final part of his career in Boston was Tom Seaver.

Seaver is better known with his time with the Mets and Reds, but Seaver came to Boston by way of trade in 1986. Seaver was a late season pickup to help the Red Sox make it into the playoffs, and he helped. They traded Steve Lyons to the White Sox for Seaver. Seaver went 5-7, but he had a 3.80 ERA, a 111 ERA+ and pitched in over 104 innings. Seaver helped the Sox get to the playoffs, but he was injured so he could not participate.

Seaver's contributions got the Sox to the playoffs, however they needed him during the World Series. In an alternate reality, Tom Seaver beats the team that dumped him (the Mets) in Game 6 of the World Series to win the Sox the World Series. However, it did not happen that way, with Mookie Wilson, Stanley's pitch, Calvin Schiraldi, and Bill Buckner.

The 1986 Topps Traded Tom Seaver is the one Seaver card I have in my collection.
