Richard Beese described one of his favorite games “Skating”. Skating is a sport or an activity which is being performed over which surfaces or on ice. It is being done using skates.

Skating sport is of different types that includes –

- Skate Hockey

- Figure Skating

- Speed Skating

- Roller Skating

- Synchronized Skating

- Recreational Skating

Richard Beese described that the sport of "skating" can be broken into three categories –

1. Roller Skating - Roller skating is being done over a smooth surface using roller skates. Specially designed boots are used for Roller skating game. Roller skating mostly performed outdoors. Roller skating started to lost some its grace during late 1980 and early 1990. Roller skating becomes less popular because Inline skating came into existence.

Roller Skating involves the following –

• Roller Derby - It is a game of two teams of five members. It is being played in the same direction around a track.

• Roller Basketball - You can play this with minimums as of two skaters playing one-on-one, and up to eight skaters playing four-on-four. It can be played indoors as well as outdoors.

• RollerJoring - Rollerjoring requires the Dog power. It also requires a reliable and obedient dog, who can understand the instructions in well manner.

• RollerSoccer - It is a form of Football or Soccer that is being played over Roller Skates. The first Rollersoccer World Cup was held in London in 2003

• Rollerskiing – Rollerskiing is a competitive sport now. It is equivalent to the cross county skiing.

2. Inline Skating – The boots used for Inline skating is quite different from Roller skating. In Inline skating, skater uses lightweight boots with three to five wheels attached in a line. It has become very popular with time; there are currently more than 30 in-line skating companies. The first modern in-line skates were developed by Scott Olsen.

Ice Skating

Ice Skating involves the following -

• Freestyle slalom skating – It is a type of inline skating that involves performing tricks around a straight line of equally spaced cones.

• Vert skating – It is about riding inline skates on a vert ramp.

• Aggressive inline skating - Inline skating is actually executed on specially designed inline skates. It mainly focuses on grinding and spins.

3. Ice Skating - Ice skating can be performed in indoor and outdoor rinks. It can also be performed on lakes, river or ponds. Special boots are used for Ice skating, where skaters glide over ice. Competitive ice skating is comprised of figure skating and speed skating.

Ice Skating involves the following –

• Figure skating – This is a sport in which individuals or groups perform on figure skates on ice.

• Speed skating – This is a form of ice skating in which the competitors race each other in traveling a certain distance on skates

• Tour skating – This is amazing. It is known as a sport and recreational form of long distance ice skating that is performed on natural ice.

Skating as a sport in Olympics -

Richard Beese says that Skating is now famous all over the world. With the passage of time this game became an Olympic game. In the year of 1908, Figure skating was first contested in the Olympic Games. With time skating became more popular and in 1924, the sport has been a part of the Winter Olympic Games also. A team event was performed in the Olympic games of the year 2014. That team event was performed by the group of one men's single skater, one ladies' single skater, one pair, and one ice dance duo. Richard Beese considers it one of the best skating performances.

Richard Beese explains some Benefits of Skating Sport –

Skating is a great exercise also as it helps to move your all body parts. It helps to built strength in the muscles of lower body.

- It helps to burn out your extra body fats.

- It is a great exercise to improve body balance and coordination.

- Skating is best kind of work out for arms and legs.

- It helps to have a healthy heart.
