The Surprising Celtics
I thought that the Celtics made a significant upgrade trading for Kyrie Irving in the off-season, but I never thought that this team would become the owners of this NBA season's longest winning streak (16 games, as I write this). I thought that we turned over too many players, and that we were moving back towards the proverbial 'square one.'
Instead, the new Celtics have come together somehow. The team has a renewed commitment to defense. During a TV interview with Celtics rookie Jayson Tatum, I saw a sign posted on the wall behind him. It was a poster of defensive rules, the one item being "we shall run to set our defense." Sure enough, as I watch them during games, the team sprints downcourt to get set.
As much as I think it would be cool for the Celtics to run the table, I know there's a loss up ahead somewhere. But we got past the Warriors, the Hawks, and even our own shooting woes. I'm liking these Celtics, very much! It's a good surprise!
