Who is Russ Smith?

Russ Smith is a 6'0" point guard who is a former college basketball star at Louisville and an ex-NBA player. Now he plays in a Chinese professional league. Ok why is this notable and the answer is Russ Smith put up 81 points in a recent game in that league. Russ Smith is averaging over 60 points in 5 games. Yes 60. Now you might think if he is that good and as I said a college basketball star then how is he not getting a spot on an NBA roster. I really don't get why he is not. In college he showed he can be a scorer for an NBA team.

College

In college for the university of Louisville Russ smith averaged 14 points and had great field goal percentages from 2 and 3 point range. He was an all American and a National Champion. Not only was he great in the regular season, but he was even better when it came to the NCAA Tournament where he led his team to the national championship where they would win.

NBA

While he was playing in the NBA He was not great but was not given an opportunity to show how good he really is. He played 2 seasons in the NBA with the New Orleand Pelicans and the Memphis Grizzlies. Memphis being a playoff team and when Russ was playing with the Pelicans they were actually the 8th seed. So he wasn't getting that opportunity on playoff teams. He only averaged 2 points in his NBA career and his field goal percentage wasn't great. When he was put in the NBA D-League (Now known as the NBA G-League) he put up a D-League record 65 points showing that he can score the basketball.

Chinese League

Russ Smith has played 5 games in a proffesional basketball league in China. In those 5 games he was scored 62, 42, 56, 66, 81. He is averaging over 60 PPG. He scored 81 points in a game. Russ Smith is showing why NBA teams should give him an opportunity.
