Why Dallas Should Say No To AD

?At 10:12 AM on Tuesday, it was announced that the Minnesota Vikings were not going to pick up Adrian Peterson's option, which will make him a free agent on March 9th. There are plenty of teams who have needs at running back who would be a perfect landing spot for the 31 year old running back. Teams such as the New York Giants, the Oakland Raiders, and the Green Bay Packers, which would cause a lot of Vikings fans to feel very uneasy. But one team in particular has also been talked about as an ideal landing spot. That team being the Dallas Cowboys. Adrian Peterson has never been shy about expressing his interest in playing for the Cowboys. Now there are some Cowboys fans who would love the idea of having the tandem of Zeke and AD in the backfield. However this move makes zero sense for both parties involved. Adrian Peterson is looking to be a starter in 2017 and obviously Zeke has that spot locked up. So if he does come to Big D it will be as a backup, which means that he will most likely be limited to 5-10 carries per game. Which is something I'm sure he's not looking forward to. He is only 31 years of age and prior to last season, he had 1,425 yards and 11 touchdowns.  Which shows that there is still something left in the tank. The bad news is he's only played one full season in the last 3. And missed most of last year with a lateral meniscus tear. Which should make some teams consider building up their lines if they want to bring him in.

Now, this move looks really good on paper. Having two of the best backs in the league behind the best offensive line in football. A two headed monster which would keep defensive coordinators up at night. But, unfortunately, this is not a move that the Cowboys need to make. With a backfield consisting of Ezekiel Elliott, Alfred Morris, Lance Dunbar, and Darren McFadden, bringing in another running back seems like a waste of time and money. This offseason has to be devoted to the defensive side of the ball. And with a fairly good free agent class and, according to many experts, a loaded defensive draft, the Cowboys can definitely make some noise this offseason.
