KWINGS/TOLEDO SPLIT WEEKEND SERIES



KALAMAZOO, MI. - After a power performance capped off with a win at Wings Event Center over Toledo on Friday Night with goals by Kalamazoo's Kyle Bushee, Peter Schneider, Veteran Justin Taylor, and with outstanding defense by goalie Nick Riopel stopping 30 Walleye shots to secure Kalamazoo's 3-1 victory,  Toledo vowed to avenge the loss as they look to tangle with Kalamazoo again.

And they got their chance on Saturday night again at Wings Event Center. Toledo came out swinging, an onslaught if you will with Toledo jumping out front against Kwings goalie Joel Martin. In the opening period, Toledo starting out the scoring on a power play goal by Evan Rankin making it 1-0 Walleye.

But that wasn't enough, 2 minutes into the period 2 Toledo wanted more. With scores by J.P. LaFontaine on a carome shot over Martin's head and a loose puck by Alden Hirschfeld Toledo lead climbed 3-0.

Early in period 3 Toledo continued to punish goalie Joel Martin and pouring it on thick. Walleyes Tylor Spink gets a score on a backdoor feed from Evan Rankin, Simon Denis (a power play one timer with assist by Shane Berschbach), and finally Dane Walters (forehand-to-backhand). Kwings finally gets on the board late by Peter Schneider (assist by Lane Scheidl) as the Walleye crushed the Kwings 6-1. Shots on goal: Kalamazoo 37 Toledo 35, Power play goals: Kalamazoo 0/2, Toledo 3/5...Toledo's 6 goals ties a season high allowed by Kalamazoo. Kwings now hits the road to play the Mallards of Quad City schedule for Wednesday at the iWireless Center.
