NFC South Draft Needs - 2015 NFL Draft

The NFC South fell to the bottom of the NFL in 2014 leading all four teams to look at their needs in the 2015 NFL Draft. This includes a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that has the number one overall pick and an Atlanta Falcons team that currently sits at number eight overall. The other two teams the New Orleans Saints currently have the 13th pick while the Carolina Panthers despite a 7-9 regular season record have the 25th overall pick.

All four of these teams have gaping holes to fill on both sides of the ball with none of the four really in desperate need of a quarterback. The Buccaneers might have the most difficult task of all those teams simply based on what the team should do with the ability to select any player available on the draft board.

This gives us a chance to take a look at the needs for all four NFC South teams before the upcoming 2015 NFL Draft.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Bucs and Lovie Smith currently hold onto the number one overall pick in this year’s draft. While many of the gurus have the team selecting one of the two quarterbacks available we believe the team has bigger needs. That also converts into a possible trade that would move them down a few picks to not only land additional picks but draft some much needed help on the offensive line.

Top 3 Needs: Offensive Line, Defensive End, Defensive Backs

Atlanta Falcons: The Falcons might have one of the NFL’s top offenses in the league but the team has struggled to slow down opposing teams. This opens up a wide range of possibilities for the team including looking at a pass rush specialist like Vic Beasley out of Clemson or Owamagbe Odighizuwa out of UCLA. The team could also find a reliable play maker at the tight end position if one is available in the second or third round.

Top 3 Needs: Defensive End, Tight End, Running Back

New Orleans Saints: The Saints might be in the deepest struggles as the team is over the predicted salary cap for the upcoming 2015 NFL season. This leaves the team a large variety of holes it the gets into cutting veterans at key positions. The team needs to continue to add to the defense including a talented cornerback. The other concern is if the team has to let go veteran wide receiver Marques Colston leaving them thin at the receiver position.

Top 3 Needs: Cornerbacks, Wide Receiver, Offensive Line

Carolina Panthers: The Panthers won the division at 7-9 but much of that success came from the defensive side of the ball. The offensive line was a major concern keeping Cam Newton upright including at the tackle position. The team could also use an additional wide receiver to compliment Kelvin Benjamin.
