Nathan Lyon’s Girlfriend in Stands to Watch Her Hero Bat: Ashes 2019

The Australian top-order wilted at the crease on the opening day of the 2019 Ashes campaign as the tail was forced to step up. Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon played crucial roles alongside Steve Smith to resurrect the Aussie innings.

Lyon withstood constant pressure from the English attack to remain at the crease as Smith ticked the scoreboard over.

The new Australian spin king put forth an impressive display with the willow as his new girlfriend watched on. Coming to the crease with Australia at 9/210 and Smith still 15 runs of his century, the off spinner refused to buckle and it was eventually Smith who fell last for 144 with the score at 284.

But while McCarthy’s eyes were locked on Lyon, the Aussie number 11 had eyes for another.

She was none other than Emma McCarthy, the new girlfriend of Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon, who was also joined by Dani Willis, ‘s wife. While at one end, the tabloid was busy capturing pictures of cricketer’s girlfriend and wives, on the other hand, Steven Smith and Nathan Lyon were busy stitching a crucial partnership that not only took Australia to a respectable total of 284, but helped Steve Smith reach his 24th test ton.

Smith was fulled of praise for his tailenders after the completion of the opening day’s play which saw Australia end all out for 284.

“Sometimes you need your tail to dig in with you,” Steven Smith said.

“Everyone gets to bat, so you might as well try and improve it, and to their credit the bottom four and the bowlers that are on the bench have worked incredibly hard the last couple of weeks to try and find a game plan that works in England.

“Try and get their defence in order and playing the ball really late and all those kinds of things.

“It’s been a big focus, because tail runs can change the course of a game, as we sort of saw today.”

McCarthy stood in the stands soaking in the opening day’s action as did Steven Smith’s wife Dani Willis.

“All their partners are here and some of the most respected cricketers I played with hated that distraction. They weren’t allowed on tour until after the series had been won. Your mind needs to be completely focused on it. Cricket is a sport that requires complete concentration. You need everything going for you and I’m not sure they’re pushing for that hard enough,” Healy said.

It has been 18 years since the last time Australia won the Ashes in England and Australia looks completely focused to break this unmemorable record.

The team has taken on the words of Healy with the hopes of securing their first Ashes victory in London since 2001.

“We haven’t won there in nearly 20 years,” Dovey said.

“We’ve got to throw the kitchen sink at it.”
