LFL Drops New England, Adds Denver for 2017 Season
The New England Liberty, one of three expansion teams in 2016, will not play in the Legends Football League United States in 2017 and the league will add the Denver Dream for the upcoming season the league announced this week.
The original Denver Dream played in the league's inaugural 2009-10 season at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado as one of the league's original outdoor teams. The team lasted just that season, playing just three of its four scheduled games, all in 2009. The new team has yet to announce a venue. Dick's Sporting Goods Park and Sports Authority Field at Mile High are potential outdoor venues, while the Pepsi Center or the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado could host the team indoors.
The Liberty announced they were suspending operations until the 2018 season, citing that the organization let the fans down during its inaugural season at SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire. Many LFL teams in the past have announced dates for return that came and went without any updates, so it isn't seen as much of a guarantee at this point.
Other candidates for 2017 expansion include Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Ohio and Kansas City.
