Friday night football betting is highlighted by Massachusetts vs. Old Dominion. The Las Vegas betting line has Old Dominion -8, though as low as -102. Shop around because -7.5 and -115 is also widely posted. The total is 53. Both the side and total are up slightly from the openers of -7 and 52.

Consistent with normal public betting patterns, the home favorites have taken 67 percent of tickets written on the spread bet, while 63 percent are wagering on the under, a bit of an abnormality as the betting public generally prefers betting on overs. Despite a 1-4 SU mark, UMass is 3-2 ATS, but plays only their second road game. Old Dominion is 3-2 both outright and in the back pocket, 2-0 home both. They have also gone over 4-of-5 thus far.

According to virtually every power rating, UMass has played a substantially tougher schedule. The Minutemen have slightly below average numbers on defense allowing 5.5 yards per play to teams normally getting 5.3. Offensively, they are particular inept running the ball getting 2.6 yards per rush to squads generally permitting 3.4 including a horrid 1.3 on the road.

Old Dominion runs well getting .4 more yards per rush than foes normally permit but .4 yards per pass less. Defensively, their numbers are average.

Spread betting trends (all records are ATS): UMass 2-7 to teams with a winning record. Old Dominion is 5-1 to teams with a losing record, 1-8 outside conference.

Totals angles: UMass over 7-1 to teams with a winning record. Old Dominion is 8-0 after getting more than 450 total yards last game.
