Philip Rivers set history for the San Diego Chargers Thursday night setting a franchise record for most passing yards al-time. The Chargers almost blew a 4th quarter lead, but hung on to beat the Broncos 21-13.

It’s another Football Friday (and a big Football Friday the day before the Dakota Marker game for NDSU Bison and SDSU Jackrabbit fans).  Hopefully everyone enjoyed our 2016-17 NHL season preview post yesterday.  The Stack is here with our normal preview and predictions for the upcoming week in the NFL.  Can you believe we’re already to week 6?  The Broncos did not help us start week 6 off on a good note thanks to the Chargers beating them 21-13.  Thought about taking the Chargers, but so many blown fourth quarter leads.  Now we need the rest of these teams I’m picking to step up and make me look better.  Let’s get right to some previews and predictions now for week 6 in the NFL in “the stack” for today, Friday, October 14th:

San Francisco 49ers @ Buffalo Bills 1 PM ET FOX

Colin Kaepernick gets the start for the 49ers.  Finally!  The 49ers will be better with his skill set.  The Bills shouldn’t overlook them, but the Bills are a substantially better team and if they take Kaepernick and the 49ers seriously, they’ll win easily.

Prediction: Bills 27 49ers 14

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Chicago Bears 1 PM ET CBS

The Jaguars have been historically better after their London game.  What better way to start that trend off than against the 1-4 Bears?  The Bears are susceptible on both sides of the ball and I think the Jaguars have more talent and will get the better of them.

Prediction: Jaguars 30 Bears 20

Los Angeles Rams @ Detroit Lions 1 PM ET FOX

The Rams have been pretty impressive this year especially on defense.  Matthew Stafford needs to start hot early and sustain it unlike last week against Philadelphia.  I think they do enough to get the victory over the Rams.

Prediction: Lions 20 Rams 13

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Miami Dolphins 1 PM ET CBS

These are the games you fear if you’re a Steelers fan.  As long as the Steelers don’t overlook the Dolphins they will be just fine.  Roethlisberger, Bell and Brown get it done.

Prediction: Steelers 38 Dolphins 20

Cincinnati Bengals @ New England Patriots 1 PM ET CBS

The Bengals must have a better showing than they did last week down in Dallas.  They’ll be better, but good luck winning in Foxboro with Tom Brady making his home debut.  Patriots get the better of the Bengals in this one.

Prediction: Patriots 27 Bengals 20

Carolina Panthers @ New Orleans Saints 1 PM ET FOX

I get that the Saints have had two weeks to prepare for the Panthers, but at some point the Panthers and Cam Newton get back to form.  They are better than the Saints and I think they show it on Sunday if they play within themselves.

Prediction: Panthers 34 Saints 24

Baltimore Ravens @ New York Giants 1 PM ET CBS

The Ravens have lost two in a row and they fired their offensive coordinator Marc Tresman on Monday.  The Giants have lost three in a row, but both teams are pretty evenly matched.  Odell Beckham Jr. makes a big play and the Giants find a way to win this game late.

Prediction: Giants 27 Ravens 16

Cleveland Browns @ Tennessee Titans 1 PM ET CBS

Browns head coach Hue Jackson says that Cody Kessler will play this week, but how healthy is he truly?  Marcus Mariota played really well last week and the Titans in general have played well this season.  Against a beat up Browns team, they roll in this one.

Prediction: Titans 31 Browns 17

Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington 1 PM ET FOX

I was going to take Washington all week, but with news that tight end Jordan Reed may be out with a concussion, I think that is a huge loss for Washington’s offense and that will significantly hurt their chances of winning this one.  Don’t feel confident about it, but I’m taking Carson Wentz and the Eagles.

Prediction: Eagles 27 Washington 24

Kansas City Chiefs @ Oakland Raiders 4:05 PM ET CBS

The Chiefs have had two weeks to stew about the beatdown the Steelers handed them.  There just seems to be something going on with the Raiders this year though.  They want to show they can hang with the big boys in this division.  Beating the Chiefs is a good first step.  Derek Carr makes a big play late and the Raiders find a way to win.

Prediction: Raiders 24 Chiefs 19

Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers 4:25 PM ET FOX

Can Dak Prescott really lead the Cowboys into Lambeau Field and beat Aaron Rodgers?  If James Starks and Eddie Lacy aren’t in the backfield for Green Bay it is certainly possible.  The Cowboys are playing with a ton of confidence right now and if Rodgers wants to prove to people that he isn’t on the decline, this would be the time to do so against the Cowboys secondary.  Don’t feel great about this one.

Prediction: Packers 27 Cowboys 23

Atlanta Falcons @ Seattle Seahawks 4:25 PM ET FOX

The Falcons passed one test by toying with the Broncos defense.  Seattle offers a similar test and they have tape of how the Falcons beat the Broncos.  Falcons head coach Dan Quinn would sure love to go back to Seattle and beat the team he used to be the defensive coordinator for, but Seattle has had two weeks to prepare.  They find a way to hold off the Falcons though again I don’t say this with a great deal of confidence.

Prediction: Seahawks 23 Falcons 20

Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans 8:30 PM ET NBC

The Texans looked awful last week in Minny, but who haven’t the Vikings made look bad this year?  The Colts still look shaky, but they can show me a lot if they beat the Texans in Houston.  Don’t see it happening.

Prediction: Texans 24 Colts 20

New York Jets @ Arizona Cardinals 8:30 PM ET ESPN MNF

Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall says the Jets are in perfect position to turn things around at 1-4.  Make it 1-5 after Monday night assuming of course Carson Palmer is back starting at quarterback for the Cardinals.  The Jets will miss wide receiver Eric Decker the rest of the season with his injury.  Matt Forte will have to carry the load for them to win and he hasn’t fared well in his last two games.

Prediction: Cardinals 27 Jets 17
