Manchester United vs. Arsenal Preview & Prediction
The 12th matchday of the English Premier League kicks off with the biggest managerial rivalry in the Premier League with Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger locking horns when Manchester United host Arsenal at Old Trafford this Saturday afternoon.
Manchester United have another season where they are struggling despite Van Gaal being fired for Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager, who made a name for himself in the Premier League during his stint with Chelsea is having another poor start and is on the hot seat at Old Trafford. After 11 games, the Red Devils managed just five victories with three draws and three defeats.
What draws more criticism for the Red Devils is their current style of play is their inability to win games. The 3-1 victory at Swansea in the last fixture is their lone win in the last six contest. United are sitting in 6th place in the Premier League with 18 points, six points less than Arsenal, who hold the 4th spot.
Meanwhile, Arsenal hasn't conceded a match in the Premier League since a 4-3 defeat at home to Liverpool on the first match day. Wenger’s squad is unbeaten in 10Premier League games with seven wins and three draws. The positives for the Gunners is their marquee players performing at a higher level. Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are all in excellent form, while Theo Walcott has contributed with the major goals in important moments.
However, we all know well about the Gunners. They will have some winning streaks in between before struggling for a place in the top 4 spot at the end of the season. Their last Premier League game was another high profile match, the London Derby against the Spurs ofTottenham, in which that game finished in a 1-1 draw at the Emirates.
Prediction: I believe we will witness another typical Jose Mourinho set up in tactics with Manchester United on Saturday afternoon. His primary strategy will be to ask Arsenal to take on the attack so that his quick players can attack the counter. Wenger fell into that trap on two previous occasions last season when Mourinho coached Chelsea. While Wenger will be heavily determined by the team spirit to break his curse at Old Trafford. It must be noted that Arsenal can't defeat United at Old Trafford despite being in great shape in previous seasons. United may have a slight advantage going into this contest, but the defensive strategy could hurt them at some point. So my pick for the match is a 2-2 draw.
