Brian Kendrick could shape the WWE Cruiserweight Division

I am a Brian Kendrick fan.

There I said it.

I have been his fan since his old Smackdown solo days when he tried to rap battle John Cena to oblivion... but my fandom went full bloom when he held the WWE Tag Team Titles alongside Paul London. That team should have never been dismantled in the first place... despite THE awesome character change of Kendrick after it.

So I’m torn to root between Kendrick and Filipino WWE Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins. Both wrestlers went on dire straits to accomplish some kind of indie success and I doubt both guys will disappoint at Clash of Champions. Aside from Pinoy Pride though, Perkins just won the belt in awesome fashion. I doubt if pundits saw Perkins winning it all if Zack Sabre Jr. and Kota Ibushi just signed their guaranteed deals. That’s why they need to make Perkins great – thus winning and retaining his title is one for the books.

But then the edge Kendrick has at the moment is his character. He looks like a desperate man in need of redemption. Perkins sounds like a generic babyface at the moment. It’s not entirely his fault because we were supposed to cheer all the contestants of The Cruiserweight Classic since it’s booked as a global tournament and not like a typical episode of Raw. I can see Kendrick, Noam Dar, and Jack Gallagher’s awesome moustache as heels with Rich Swann’s weird dancing, Cedric Alexander, Gran Metallik, and Lince Dorado as the faces. Akira Tozawa? No idea yet but he’ll probably knife edge his way to awesomeness.

I can see Perkins retaining at Clash of Champions. Kendrick could be pushed to the side because they need a new contender to face the champ. Hopefully, Kendrick does enough to become more than a glorified cruiser enhancement.
