Arians and Winston a perfect combination

Bruce Arians stated with authority at his opening press conference that this is Jameis Winston’s team.

There is no question. No debating. This team will be lead by Jameis Winston.

Arians in an interview with Rich Eisen said that he believes Winston can lead the Bucs to a championship. He has all the tools in his tool box that is needed to be successful in the NFL.

It will be the job of Arians, Offensive Coordinator Byron Leftwich, and Quarterback Coach Clyde Christensen to get Winston to play to his potential.

Arians is know as the “Quarterback Whisperer” around the league. Arians has worked with future Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger. Arians has also worked with Andrew Luck very early in his career and coached Carson Palmer to his best seasons when Arians and Palmer were together in Arizona.

Winston has all the tools to be a successful Quarterback in the NFL. The turnovers have been the big problem and that is something that Arians has vowed to correct with Winston.

Keep in mind that Winston is just 25 years old. He has started 54 games and has a lot of football yet to play.

Winston has 88 touchdowns with 58 interceptions in his career. Winston has also fumbled eighteen times in his career losing four of those.

Combined, those interceptions and turnovers rank second in the league since 2015 Winston’s rookie season.

Let’s look at some Quarterback stats since 2015:

Drew Brees 124 Touchdowns, 39 Interceptions and four fumbles.

Phillip Rivers 122 Touchdowns, 56 Interceptions, and eight fumbles.

Tom Brady 125 Touchdowns, 28 Interceptions, and three fumbles.

Marcus Mariotta 69 Touchdowns,, 42 Interceptions, and fourteen fumbles

Jameis Winston 88 Touchdowns, 58 Interceptions, and eighteen fumbles.

Those stats are pretty revealing when you look at the low amount of turnovers that the elite quarterbacks in the league have.

Right now Winston is considered an average quarterback ranking anywhere from fourteen to eighteen in the list of quarterback rankings around the league.

In order to move into the top ten, Winston will need to drastically reduce his turnovers and make better decisions with the football. This is where Arians and his staff will have a big impact.

The good news is that in the last five games of the 2018 season, Winston played the best football of his career, as he threw eleven touchdown passes with just three interceptions.

The potential is there and Arians sees it. With better decision making will come more wins as that is the real negative with Winston in his career so far. Winston has twenty one wins and thirty three losses in his career.

Winston has a lot of the tools already around him and Arians will look to upgrade the offensive line and the running back position through free agency and the draft.

This is a make or break year for Winston. He is in the last year of his rookie contract and will make 20.92 million dollars this season.

Arians has already made one bold decision in his standing behind Winston as the leader of the team. Now its up to Winston to take that next step and become one of the elite quarterbacks in the league.
